Swansea Firewood: Choose the Right Quantity for Your Home

From occasional fires on chilly evenings to regular winter heating, the amount of firewood you need depends on how frequently you use your stove and how much storage space you have available.

If you only light your fire occasionally, our bags of kiln-dried logs provide a convenient option. Smaller quantities are easier to carry, store and replenish without committing to a substantial delivery.

For customers using their wood burners regularly, our bulk firewood range offers larger quantities in several different formats.

Our bulk bag options include:

• 0.8m³ bulk bags: A practical choice for smaller log stores or customers who prefer ordering more regularly.
• 1.2m³ bulk bags: A useful middle ground between storage requirements and quantity.
• 1.6m³ bulk bags: Suitable for frequent firewood users with adequate dry storage space.
• Stacked log crates: An alternative bulk format that makes it easier to compare neatly stacked quantities.
• Pallets of individually packed bags: Ideal for customers who want a substantial delivery while keeping the logs separated into manageable packages.

Remember that loose-filled and stacked volumes are different measurements. A 1.2m³ loose-filled bulk bag, for example, represents approximately 0.72m³ when neatly stacked.

Our firewood volume comparison chart helps you compare quantities before ordering.

Which Kiln-Dried Logs Should You Choose?

Not all firewood burns in exactly the same way. Different species offer different characteristics, so the best choice depends on your appliance and how you prefer to use it.

Kiln-Dried Ash Logs

Ash is a versatile hardwood that produces steady heat and is suitable for regular wood-burning stove use. Our kiln-dried ash logs are worth considering if you want a dependable hardwood for everyday fires.

Kiln-Dried Birch Logs

Birch is known for lighting relatively easily and producing attractive, lively flames. It is a useful option for customers who want their fire to establish quickly.

Kiln-Dried Oak Logs

Oak is a dense hardwood that generally burns more gradually once a good firebed has developed. It can be particularly useful for maintaining heat in a suitable wood burner.

British Kiln-Dried Larch Logs

Larch is a softwood rather than a hardwood. It generally lights readily and produces responsive heat, although it may burn more quickly than denser hardwoods. Our British larch products offer another option for customers comparing species and delivered quantities.

FirewoodFund supplies both British and European-sourced firewood, depending on the product. If provenance matters to you, browse our British logs and check the individual product descriptions.

Kiln-Dried Logs for Swansea Wood Burners — Getting the Size Right

Choosing the correct log dimensions is just as important as choosing the wood species.

Our standard small kiln-dried logs are approximately 25cm long, with diameters typically ranging from 5cm to 15cm.

For customers with larger fireboxes, our large kiln-dried logs measure approximately 35cm in length, with diameters of around 8cm to 20cm.

These measurements are subject to a tolerance of approximately 10%, so always check the maximum recommended log dimensions for your appliance before purchasing.

Our logs for wood burners range provides further options for customers looking for suitable kiln-dried firewood.

Our kiln-dried products are prepared to a moisture content below 20%, helping the wood light more readily and burn more efficiently than inadequately seasoned logs.

To maintain that condition, store your firewood somewhere dry, protected from rain and with suitable airflow.

Firewood Delivery Across Swansea, Gower and the Swansea Valley

West Glamorgan includes a considerable variety of locations, from Swansea’s residential neighbourhoods and the coastal communities around Mumbles to the rural villages of Gower and the towns of Neath and Port Talbot.

This geographical variety is worth considering when ordering larger quantities of firewood.

For example, customers in established urban areas such as Sketty, Morriston and Gorseinon may need to consider available unloading space, parked vehicles or access to their driveways.

Properties in rural Gower villages such as Reynoldston, Llanrhidian and Rhossili may have different considerations. Many Gower roads are narrow and bordered by traditional stone walls or hedgerows, making it important to check whether a delivery vehicle can safely reach the property.

How Are Bulk Logs Delivered?

Larger bulk orders normally arrive on a lorry equipped with a tail lift. The driver lowers the pallet from the vehicle and uses a pallet truck to move it where conditions allow.

Pallet trucks require a firm, reasonably level surface. They cannot normally travel across grass, loose gravel, steep slopes or steps.

Delivery may be kerbside, and placement in a particular location cannot be guaranteed.

If your property has restricted access, a narrow approach road or an unusual unloading arrangement, we recommend contacting FirewoodFund before placing your order.

Burning Firewood in Swansea? Check Local Smoke-Control Rules

Some areas of Swansea are designated Smoke Control Areas, where additional restrictions apply to the fuels and appliances that can be used.

If your property falls within one of these areas, dry wood may only be burned in an appropriate exempt appliance, operated according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Burning wood in an ordinary open fireplace is not permitted within a Smoke Control Area.

You can check whether your address is affected using the official Wales Smoke Control Areas Map.

For further information, read the Welsh Government guidance on smoke-control requirements.

Choosing properly dried firewood is important, but it does not remove the requirement to use a legally appropriate appliance.

Why Your Firewood Order Helps Support UK Tree Planting

At FirewoodFund, supplying good-quality firewood is only part of what we do.

For every order placed online, we donate money towards tree planting in the UK.

Whether you order a few convenient bags of logs or a substantial bulk delivery to West Glamorgan, your purchase contributes towards this ongoing commitment.

Tree planting plays an important role in supporting future woodland development, biodiversity and the wider environment. We believe it is important to contribute towards the landscapes and natural resources on which the firewood industry depends.

Frequently Asked Questions About Firewood Delivery in Swansea

Do you deliver logs to Neath and Port Talbot as well as Swansea?

Yes. FirewoodFund offers kiln-dried log delivery across Swansea and the wider West Glamorgan area, including Neath, Port Talbot, Pontardawe, Gorseinon and surrounding communities. Delivery availability and any applicable charges can be checked during checkout.

Can I arrange a bulk firewood delivery to the Gower Peninsula?

Yes, subject to suitable vehicle access and delivery arrangements. Properties on narrow rural lanes or with restricted unloading space may require additional checks before a palletised delivery can be confirmed.

Are kiln-dried logs suitable for all wood-burning stoves?

Kiln-dried logs are suitable for many wood-burning appliances, but the log dimensions, wood type and manufacturer’s recommendations must be considered. Always check your appliance’s requirements before ordering.

How much firewood should I order for winter?

The amount required depends on your stove, insulation, how often you light a fire and whether wood is your main or supplementary heating source. Occasional users may prefer smaller bags, while frequent users may find bulk bags or crates more practical.

Is a bulk bag of firewood the same as a tonne bag?

No. Bulk firewood bags are generally described by their loose-filled volume, measured in cubic metres. This should not be confused with weight, which varies according to the wood species, moisture content and quantity supplied.

Can I choose my firewood delivery date?

For palletised orders, you can select an available delivery date during the ordering process. Smaller courier orders are normally dispatched on the next working day rather than having a bookable delivery date.

Do I need to be home when my logs are delivered?

Not necessarily. Pallet deliveries may be left in a safe location on suitable private property, provided the driver can access the unloading area safely. However, being available can be helpful where access or placement requires clarification.

Are your kiln-dried logs all British?

No. FirewoodFund offers both British and European-sourced kiln-dried firewood. The origin depends on the individual product, so please check its description if you have a particular preference.

Can I store kiln-dried logs outside?

Yes, provided they are adequately protected from rain and ground moisture. A covered, ventilated log store is ideal. Keeping logs raised off the ground and allowing air to circulate will help preserve their condition.
