Our Story So Far
FirewoodFund was born in 2016 out of a passion for roaring fires and locally sourced, sustainable firewood. Not long after our founder, Matthew, had a new stove installed in his home, he needed his first batch of logs for fuel. Matthew found a local supplier who had been recommended by a friend but, whilst the seasoned logs that were supplied were of a reasonable quality, he felt the ordering process left a lot to be desired. Payment was inconvenient (having to leave a cheque under a plant pot!) and there was a lack of transparency about where the logs came from and if they were sustainability sourced.
Turning to the internet to research other suppliers, it soon became clear that this lack of transparency about the product’s provenance was widespread amongst many of the top online UK retailers. A lot of the wood on offer was not sustainably sourced from British woodland and was in fact being shipped in from Eastern Europe (often in pallet crates). Not only does importing firewood from overseas add an unnecessary carbon footprint to the process, it increases the risk of diseases being introduced to British woodland.
Realising the need for a better solution for purchasing firewood online, FirewoodFund.co.uk was launched. Since then, the company has been trading with 5 core values at its heart:

Sustainably sourced British wood
All of our firewood and kindling is produced from sustainably managed British woodlands. The species of wood that we typically source include Ash, Beech and Oak. We do not target specific wood species for the purpose of sustainability.
