Choose the Right Bulk Bag for Your Fire
If you burn firewood regularly, continually replacing small bags soon becomes inconvenient. Buying kiln dried logs in bulk bags gives you a larger supply from one order, reduces how frequently you need to restock and can provide better value when you have suitable storage available.
FirewoodFund offers bulk bags of kiln dried logs in 0.8m³, 1.2m³ and 1.6m³ loose-filled volumes. Choose easy-lighting British larch or premium mixed hardwood according to how you use your fire, the heat and burn characteristics you prefer and the amount of space available at home.
Every option is supplied kiln dried and ready to use, with practical 25cm logs suitable for many domestic wood-burning stoves, multi-fuel stoves and open fires. Always check the maximum log dimensions and permitted fuels specified by your appliance manufacturer.
Compare Our Kiln Dried Log Bulk Bags
The best size is not automatically the largest. Think about how frequently you light your fire and how much dry, ventilated storage you have available.
| Bulk bag option | Loose-filled volume | Approximate stacked volume | Approximate small-bag equivalent | Generally best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.8m³ British larch bulk bag or 0.8m³ premium hardwood bulk bag | 0.8m³ | 0.48m³ | Up to 29 bags | Occasional fires or more limited storage |
| 1.2m³ British larch bulk bag or 1.2m³ premium hardwood bulk bag | 1.2m³ | 0.72m³ | Up to 43 bags | Moderate use, such as two or three fires per week |
| 1.6m³ British larch bulk bag or 1.6m³ premium hardwood bulk bag | 1.6m³ | 0.96m³ | Up to 58 bags | Regular burners using their fire on most colder evenings |
These figures are approximate because natural logs vary in shape, diameter and how closely they settle together. Our firewood volume comparison chart provides a like-for-like comparison of bulk bags, barrow bags, crates and smaller packaged products.
British Larch or Premium Mixed Hardwood?
Choosing the right wood type can matter just as much as choosing the right quantity.
British Kiln Dried Larch
Our British larch products provide easy-lighting, responsive firewood with lively flames and useful heat. Larch is a relatively dense softwood, but it will generally ignite more readily and burn faster than denser hardwoods.
British larch can be particularly suitable if you value:
- Straightforward fire lighting
- Bright, lively flames
- Responsive heat
- British provenance
- Good value for regular stove use
- A choice of 0.8m³, 1.2m³ or 1.6m³ quantities
Premium Kiln Dried Hardwood
Our premium bulk bags contain mixed kiln dried hardwood, typically including species such as ash, beech and oak, depending on availability. Hardwood is generally chosen for its denser structure, dependable heat and ability to create a useful ember bed.
The premium mixed-hardwood options are available in 1.2m³ and 1.6m³ quantities, making them especially suitable for households that burn firewood regularly and prioritise a more sustained fire.
FirewoodFund supplies both British and European-sourced kiln dried logs, depending on the product selected. Our British-larch products are clearly identified, while the individual mixed-hardwood listings provide the relevant species and provenance information.

What Does the Bulk-Bag Volume Mean?
The stated measurement refers to the loose-filled volume of firewood supplied, including the natural air gaps between the logs. Once the firewood is removed and stacked neatly, it occupies less space.
A bulk bag of logs should not automatically be described as a “tonne bag”. Firewood can vary substantially in weight according to the wood species, moisture content, log dimensions and how closely it is packed. Cubic volume therefore provides a more useful way to compare the amount being supplied.
Our approximate conversions are:
- 0.8m³ loose-filled: approximately 0.48m³ stacked
- 1.2m³ loose-filled: approximately 0.72m³ stacked
- 1.6m³ loose-filled: approximately 0.96m³ stacked
The exact number of individual logs cannot be guaranteed because every piece of natural firewood differs slightly in shape, diameter and split.
Kiln Dried and Ready to Burn
The logs displayed on this page are kiln dried to reduce their moisture content to below 20% and are supplied Ready to Burn.
Reducing the moisture within firewood helps provide:
- Easier ignition
- More efficient combustion
- More useful heat from the fuel
- Less unnecessary smoke than wet wood
- Reduced soot and tar accumulation
- A more manageable and responsive fire
Correctly dried firewood still needs to be used in accordance with your appliance manufacturer’s instructions. If you live in a smoke-control area, wood should only be burned in an appropriate DEFRA-exempt appliance.

Plan Your Storage Before Ordering
A bulk order of kiln dried logs is most useful when you have somewhere appropriate to keep it.
Bulk-bag wrapping provides short-term protection during transport, but the delivery bag is not intended to act as permanent outdoor storage. Transfer the logs into a dry, covered and well-ventilated log store, shed or garage as soon as reasonably possible.
Keep the firewood:
- Raised away from wet ground
- Protected from direct rain
- Open to adequate airflow
- Away from persistent damp
- Safely and securely stacked
Before selecting a 1.2m³ or 1.6m³ bag, compare the approximate stacked volume with your available storage space. Our guide to the best way to store firewood in the UK climate contains more detailed practical advice.

Bookable Pallet Delivery to Your Home
Each bulk bag is securely strapped to a pallet for delivery. Free bookable weekday delivery is available to most UK mainland addresses, and you can choose from the available delivery dates during checkout.
Pallet deliveries are made using a tail-lift vehicle. Once unloaded, the pallet is moved using a manual pallet truck, subject to safe access and suitable ground conditions.
Pallet trucks cannot normally operate effectively across gravel, grass, soft ground, steep slopes, steps or severely uneven surfaces. The driver cannot guarantee placement in a particular position, so please review our full kiln dried log delivery information before ordering if your property has narrow roads, restricted access or an unsuitable unloading area.
You do not normally need to be at home, provided the pallet can safely be left on suitable private property and clear delivery instructions are supplied.
Complete Your Firewood Order
A bulk bag provides the main fuel, but it is worth checking your fire-starting supplies before completing the order.
Adding kiln dried kindling and natural firelighters at the same time means you can receive the essentials needed to establish your fire without placing another order later.
Your Order Helps Support UK Tree Planting
Choosing FirewoodFund does more than replenish your firewood supply. For every order placed online, money is donated towards tree planting in the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which bulk bag size should I choose?
The 0.8m³ bag is generally most suitable for occasional use or limited storage. A 1.2m³ bulk bag offers a useful middle ground for households lighting approximately two or three fires per week. Regular winter burners with sufficient storage may prefer the larger 1.6m³ option.
These are general guidelines because consumption depends on your appliance, property, burn duration and operating habits.
Are bulk bags cheaper than buying small bags of logs?
Buying a larger quantity can reduce the cost per cubic metre and the number of separate orders required. The best value depends on the specific product, wood type and volume selected. Only order a larger bag when you are confident you have sufficient dry storage and will use the firewood.
Are the logs sold by weight?
No. These products are sold according to their approximate loose-filled cubic volume rather than a fixed weight or number of logs. Weight varies according to wood species, moisture content and natural differences between individual logs.
What is the difference between loose and stacked volume?
Loose volume includes the air gaps that naturally occur when split logs are placed into a bag. When the same firewood is stacked neatly, those gaps become smaller, so the stacked volume is lower.
Are all the bulk bags British sourced?
The British-larch bulk bags are sourced from Britain and are clearly identified on their product listings. FirewoodFund’s wider range includes both British and European-sourced logs, depending on the product selected. Check the individual listing for precise species and provenance information.
Are the logs ready to use?
Yes. The products displayed on this page are kiln dried to below 20% moisture content and supplied ready to burn. They should still be transferred into appropriate dry, ventilated storage after delivery.
Will 25cm logs fit my stove?
The approximately 25cm log length fits many standard domestic wood-burning and multi-fuel stoves. Nevertheless, you should check the maximum log dimensions and permitted fuel stated by your appliance manufacturer before ordering.
How will my bulk bag be delivered?
The bulk bag is strapped to a pallet and delivered using a tail-lift vehicle. The pallet is then moved using a pallet truck where safe access and suitable ground conditions allow. Placement cannot be guaranteed across gravel, grass, slopes, steps or soft and uneven ground.
Can I leave the logs inside the bulk bag?
The bag provides temporary protection during delivery but is not intended for permanent storage. Move the logs into a dry, covered and ventilated storage area as soon as reasonably possible.
