Wonderful Wood Logs

They come from Mother Nature herself, ready to make your world a much warmer place – literally – depending on the time of year. Wood can help us both construct and shape of course, but it can also provide the perfect fuel for stoves, open fires, burners and a host of other appliances. In the 21st century, the right kind of wood logs can be extremely beneficial to designer stoves adding ambience to any home. The very best wood logs are readied for action by a process involving kiln drying at certain temperatures.   The whole point of this is to take out most of the wood’s moisture, generally leaving between 15 and 20 per cent. When cut to length – 25, 35 or 50cm they suddenly add an extra dimension to the sort of burn you need to get the best out of your appliance. To explain further, because the wood is largely dry and not seasoned, it can produce a quality longer lasting burn with limited mess to clear at the end. This means it produces a sustained heat facilitating the sort of fire everyone enjoys experiencing.   When we add a mixture of hardwood including ash, beech and oak, you’re all but guaranteed to get a first class burn. Hardwood is best because of its impressive density, and when used correctly, will offer terrific value for money when it comes to your wooden log delivery and long term stock.   Hardwood from British sustainable woodland is what you need because of its quality – and the fact new trees are regularly planted to this end. In fact, with every order we receive online, we’ll promise to plant a tree as part of a successful scheme to keep putting something back into our forests, and help the environment.   All hardwood trees are broadleaved, carrying flatter and broader leaves. This means they are better at absorbing light, and this helps create a harder wood. Their leaves disperse in winter before the whole cycle begins again. In burning there are no sparks or bad fumes people nearby could breathe in – the kiln drying process actually assists with the safety aspect. If you ever burn wet firewood you’ll probably hear some hissing, cracking and popping as the moisture heats up.   When you see wooden logs for sale, it’s best to take all of this into account before deciding to place an order. Standard stoves will usually come with instructions and advice from the manufacturer, so have a good read before doing your research.

Wooden Logs for Firepit?

The answer is we can use the same kiln dried logs relatively safely – but this includes any open or indeed campfires. They will produce the best burn possible with slow but sure being the key words – so in this sense a fire pit is no different. Preparing properly means a quality burn even overnight, when it’s required.   Whichever way we view things, it’s clear wooden logs are truly wonderful and a fantastic gift from nature. We must always remember to try and put something back into the environment, and make modern fire burning convenient, efficient and completely safe.

Recap:

FirewoodFund has both small and long wood logs available for a range of uses.
