Kiln-dried thick logs are larger in diameter than standard kiln-dried logs for an extra long burn. These kiln-dried logs are very chunky and ideal for large stoves, open fires, pizza ovens, and firepits. Add a good base to your fire and use these thick-cut logs for immediate burning on large stoves or open fires. These premium thick logs will burn for a very long time.

Extra Thick Log Sizes:

Log Length: 25cm (9 ¾) inches). Tolerance on length is +/- 10%. Tolerance on length is +/- 10%.

Log Diameter: 10 -20cm (4 – 8”) measured across widest point of the log. Tolerance on diameter is +/- 10%

Our extra thick logs are suitable for large DEFRA-approved stoves and can be used in a smoke control area.

Please note: These extra thick logs go through the same kiln drying process as our standard-size firewood. However, the moisture levels are slightly higher due to the thickness of the wood. Some frequently asked questions about kiln-dried logs can be found on our FAQ page.

What Will You Receive?

100% British woodland sourced hardwood logs for rapid burning on large stoves and open fires. Much thicker than standard logs. Each 1.2m3 Bulk Bag of Extra Thick Logs is ideal for open fires and large stoves. Extra dense firewood is much chunkier than standard logs, with 10 -20cm (4 – 8”) measured across the widest point (Tolerance on diameter +/- 10%). All of our logs must pass a quality control check before being dispatched for delivery.

These kiln-dried logs are a mix of hardwoods, including Ash, Beech, and Oak, all perfect for that really long burn. We do not use one specific wood species for sustainability purposes. Selective logging creates long-term changes to forest structure. Sustainable forest and plantation management helps ensure the long-term availability of firewood. We’re committed to ensuring our woodlands produce more than they are harvested.

What are the Benefits of Kiln Dried Firewood?

Freshly cut firewood is often too damp. The higher the moisture in your log, the worse burn you’ll get. Wood should have a moisture content below 20% to burn efficiently.

Kiln-dried hardwood logs have a much lower moisture content than most seasoned logs. Firewood is dried in a temperature-controlled environment to ensure moisture levels are always below 20%. The kiln-drying process consistently produces wood below that threshold for a better burn every time. With kiln-dried logs, you are still burning an all-natural product. This type of firewood simply has less moisture for a cleaner, hotter burn.

Extra thick kiln-dried firewood has the same benefits as smaller logs. These logs offer superior heat levels thanks to the kiln drying process. With a larger diameter, extra chunky firewood naturally burns for longer than its standard cut counterpart.

Quantity guidance

All stoves and open fires are different, however we’ve put together some estimations for different use-types:

For occasional use, you’ll most likely need either the 30 bag pallet or the 0.8m3 bulk bag.

For moderate use (2-3 fires per week), either the 50 bag pallet or the 1.2m3 bulk bag will most likely suit your needs.

For regular use (fires most nights per week), we recommend buying either the 80 bag pallet or 1.6m3 bulk bag.

Generally the more logs you buy the better value for money your purchase is.
