Kiln-Dried Logs: Check the Log Size Before You Check Out

For most domestic stoves, the dimensions of the individual log matter more than the size of the bag or crate.

Our standard logs are approximately 25cm long and 5–15cm in diameter, with a tolerance of ±10%.

Our larger logs are approximately 35cm long and 8–20cm in diameter, again with a ±10% tolerance.

Always check the maximum log dimensions recommended by the manufacturer of your stove, fireplace or other appliance before ordering.

A Useful Note for Wood Burners Around Sevenoaks

Smoke-control rules are not identical across Kent.

Sevenoaks District Council identifies Swanley and areas to the west and south of Crockenhill as smoke-control areas.

If your property is within a smoke-control area, wood must be burned using an appliance that is exempt for that fuel and in accordance with the appliance manufacturer’s instructions.

If you are unsure whether your address is affected, check the rules for your exact location with your local council or through the government’s smoke-control information before burning wood.

Kiln drying improves the moisture content of firewood, but being kiln dried does not itself remove any legal requirements that apply within a smoke-control area.

How are smaller log orders different from pallet deliveries?

No.

A bulk bag describes the container rather than a guaranteed weight of firewood. Wood varies considerably in weight depending on its species, dimensions and moisture content, so a bulk bag should not be assumed to contain one tonne of logs.

How should kiln-dried logs be stored after delivery?

Store your logs somewhere dry, covered and well ventilated.

Protect the firewood from prolonged rain while allowing air to circulate around the logs. Avoid sealing the entire supply tightly in non-breathable material, as this can restrict ventilation and trap moisture.

Which quantity of firewood should I order?

That depends mainly on how frequently you burn, the amount of dry storage you have available and how easily you want to handle the logs.

Smaller bags and boxes suit occasional use or limited storage. Bulk bags, crates and palletised quantities can make more sense for regular wood-burner users with suitable storage.
